Materials

2.5 mm hook -> my go to and absolute favourite crochet hooks are these Japanese Tulip Etimo Rose crochet hooks. I use them all the time!

Number 2 Schachenmayr Catania in the colours Petrol Blue, Grey and White + tiny bit of Orange & Black for nose and beak

Stuffing -> i use this poly-fil stuffing, i recommend getting a larger amount, because in my experience it's used up fairly quickly

2 rattle tins or rattle balls (the balls max: 2 cm diameter)

Yarn needle -> i recommend get them in several sizes, with a blunt tip (so you don't split the yarn). You will need them very often in amigurumi: the bigger ones for sewing your pieces together and the smaller ones are perfect for embroidery or sewing smaller pieces.

Scissors or cutte-> if you prefer scissors i can really recommend these beautiful high-quality, vintage scissors

OR: If you prefer a cutter - like me - i really recommend this quick to grab yarn cutter

2x2 safety eyes 7 mm  -> i recommend to get them in a set with different sizes

or black embroidery thread

sewing pins -> i recommend getting a bunch of sewing pins, because they tend to get lost or bent a little bit

embroidery needle -> i recommend get them in several sizes, with a blunt tip (so you don't split the yarn). You will need them very often in amigurumi: the bigger ones for sewing your pieces together and the smaller ones are perfect for embroidery or sewing smaller pieces.

stitch markers -> i use these

2 wooden rings 7 cm outer diameter

By the way - check out this super practical yarn bowl
I just got one and it's amazing, it's heavy enough to not move when i pull on the yarn and no more chasing of yarn that's rolling around in my flat.

Notes

I recommend doing the color changes by finishing the last stitch of the old color with the new color.

Pull up a loop in the old color, then pull through with the new color. Also proceed this way when color changing during an invisible decrease.

You can find videos about how to do  color changes, how to do the invisible decrease and the mattress stitch in my blogpost about this pattern. Link to my blog see footer below.

I also recommend using yarn in the strength i used and also stick to cotton because of the baby chewing on the rattle. You can heat up the back of the safety eyes and push flat, so they are even safer or substitute them by stitching them on with black embroidery thread. I would recommend hand washing the rattle once before use.
